Spring has finally arrived and the weather is perfect for a successful season on the dirt. Fenwick’s baseball and softball teams are filled with talent and have been practicing endlessly to provide hope for a successful long season.
Baseball recently came back from an exhilarating tournament down in Orlando over spring break. The team arrived with a 7-0 record and added onto their victories, leaving their record as 11-2. Another significant game was a victory against Mt. Carmel and highlighted mentions of St. Ignatius, Hinsdale Central, Marist and Libertyville High School.
The team’s cannot be summed up. Every player showcases unique aspects allowing them to rank #15 at their best in the state and currently #22. Senior Josh Wicker leads the offense with a .391 overall batting average and .492 on-base percentage. Junior Ryan Lazewski leads the team in RBI racking up 13 and freshman Josh Morgan with a .560 slugging percentage. Hitting isn’t only the team’s specialty as the pitching front is solid as rock. Senior Mike Sosna carries a .39 ERA and allowed only 1 earned run in 4 appearances while Senior Joey Krzak follows with a 1.80 ERA. For upcoming games they begin conference play against De La Salle, Montini, St. Francis for senior night, and the battle of East Avenue against OPRF at Triton field. Freshman Josh Morgan is excited for the upcoming conference games. Coach Kmiecik and Segredo credit their success to the collective efforts of their talented players who have displayed exceptional skill and determination on the field.
Softball has been doing just as well this season. As of late April, the Girls Softball Team has a 2-2 record and upcoming games include Benet, St. Lawrence, McAuley, and Providence. The team has displayed their hard work, and the support around and for the team is incredible. A league force of freshmen joined this year adding to the team’s talent and ready to win more games. Freshman Amanda Imburgia looks forward to winning more games and a potential long run in sectional. We are proud of you girls!
Show up to the Priory to support these wonderful athletes, and see all the hard work they have been putting in all season!
