The 2024 girls soccer season is underway! The team has been very successful in the past as they have been Regional Champions three times, Sectional Champions twice, and to the IHSA Class 2A Final Four once.
The team has not had any practices yet; however, they have had about three open gyms a week in February. “We have had a lot of good turn out from the freshman class, which is really awesome. It’s really cool to see younger players become more confident in their abilities and playing to their fullest potential,” Fiona continues, “The open gyms have been pretty good so far and I’m excited to see how they progress.” The team has moved up to class 3A division, for the playoffs and will be playing harder competition such as Lyons Township, New Trier, and Naperville North. Fiona remarks, “I am confident in my team and how we will perform. I know a lot of other girls are looking forward to it as well which will create a really good atmosphere for the team to play in.” This year, the team will have a very challenging schedule while competing in the Girls Greater Catholic League as they will be competing against the top teams. This includes Loyola Academy, St. Ignatius, De LaSalle, and Mother McAuley. The girls will also be competing in the Body Armor Tournament and the prestigious Naperville Invitational.
Coach Blazer, Coach Dave Hartsfield, Coach Dan Hussey, and Coach Esme Torres, are all feeling very optimistic about the upcoming season due to the senior leadership. “We have all been very fortunate to see this mature, hard working group become very close. They have been leaders for the younger players and real ambassadors on and off the field. We believe that with this mentality, this 2024 season will continue to have another successful regular season and postseason,” Coach Blazer comments.
The coaches and the team are looking forward to playing their best this spring season and encourage all of Friar Nation to cheer them on at the Priory!
