Since August, the Varsity Boys’ Hockey team has been paving the path to a great season.

They have been preparing themselves, mentally and physically for a long time now, and the boys were excited to begin their season and show off their abilities during this new season.

Although the team started off with a bit of a rocky start by being 2-8, Senior Ben Cappelli says that “now everybody is getting used to each other, and we are starting to play up to our potential.”

It takes a period of adjustment for any new players to really get into the groove for the sport, and adjusting to new teammates and a whole new team can be challenging at first.

However rough the beginning was, the boys are working hard to bring it back, and the evidence shows.

The team has conquered Mt.Carmel by a score of 9-3 as well as one of our biggest rivals, Marmion, by a score of 2-1. Clearly, the boys have “sauced” some major teams.

Unfortunately, the boys have fallen victim to a few teams, but they are choosing to stay positive and are not letting a few losses bring down their season.

As Senior Aidan Lutz says, “You can’t win them all.”

The Friars are keeping their cool this year and are determined to keep their heads in the game.

Plus, with injuries plaguing the team, Cappelli has said that “it is good to see all of the younger guys step up.”

It takes cooperation for a team to succeed, and evey player has to do his part to help the team achieve its goals.

Ultimately, the team has a long season ahead of them with loads of time to win big, and they are planning are doing just that.

The seniors especially are excited to make this season a great one, and they are really stepping up and being leaders for the underclassmen.

They are determined to set good examples and “help the young guys become leaders,” says Cappelli.

With home games coming up, the boys would appreciate the school spirit, so come on out and support the team.

They love seeing their Friar Nation in the stands cheering them on.
