Friars Take on Ireland

Fenwick’s President, Fr. Richard Peddicord O.P., recently announced that the Fenwick Friars will be playing in a Varsity Football game in Dublin, Ireland in 2020. This trip is a premier opportunity for Fenwick to showcase its 90-year history of excellence, leadership, and tradition in education and athletics, making it a monumental occasion for the Friar community.

On August 28, the Fenwick Friars will be on a global stage playing football in front of thousands of spectators.  With hopes of winning while in Ireland, the team will spend time preparing for the big game. Additionally, they will be attending the Notre Dame vs. Navy game the next day.

As they prepare, many of the Friars participating in the trip are already excited to travel for the big game.

Varsity wide receiver Max Reese ‘22 said, “I’m excited to go to Ireland and experience new things and the Irish culture.”

Varsity teammate Jimmy Liston ‘22 said, “I’m excited to go to Ireland because it’s going to be a great experience to travel out of the country with my teammates and have competition from another state.”

The day before the game, a celebratory dinner and pep rally for the football players, cheerleaders, coaches and families will be hosted in Dublin. Fenwick is hoping others from the current and broader Friar communities will travel to Dublin to cheer the Friars on to victory.

When asked about the event, Maddie Towne ‘22 said, “We would love to have as much support for the team as possible.” This trip not only celebrates the Friar football tradition but also its deep Dominican heritage in Ireland.
