Fenwick Career Day provided firsthand accounts and experiences, and was an excellent forum for students to discuss career fields with Fenwick Alumni. On March 7, more than 70 alumni returned during the afternoon to share their careers with juniors and seniors. Career Day enabled students to connect with alumni and learn about possible fields of interest such as in medicine, law, finance, engineering, politics, entrepreneurship and philanthropy. It is often difficult for young people to envision a career or select an area of study because there are so many new and different jobs arising. Allowing the students to explore possible career paths and interests sparks students to pursue their interests further. Each major can lead to many different jobs and seeing what former Fenwick students have become is truly inspiring to the current Friars.
Luke Bagato ’94 is now in Executive Flight Operations for The Boeing Company. Luke has been back to Fenwick several times since graduation, but Career Day was his first time in an official capacity. He shares, “While a student at Fenwick, the school shaped my future both in terms of education and personal growth.” Happy to give back to the school, Luke provided information to the students who are interested in a career in aviation. Luke spoke with many students who expressed an interest in aviation as well as aeronautical engineering.
“Hopefully sharing my career pathway and industry knowledge can help shape their decision as they move forward to college and beyond,” Luke said. Having a pleasant experience during the afternoon, Luke noticed that all the Fenwick students were “respectful and well-mannered, asking insightful questions and engaging in a pleasant dialogue.” Alumni and students enjoying each other’s company and thoughts led the day to be a successful sharing and learning experience.
Like Luke, and other alumni, giving back to the community and supporting future Friars grow is a rewarding experience. Both students and alumni cherish hearing from each other and support Fenwick’s decision to continue its Career Day throughout the years.
