As you most likely already know, Chicago is one of the best cities to spend your summer. It provides an unending list of things to occupy your summer such as concerts, sports events, shopping, and things to see. Here are some things to add to your Chicago summer bucket list!
One of the most obvious pros of Chicago is its beautiful lakefront location. Chicago’s downtown falls along the coast of Lake Michigan, where there are a multitude of beautiful beaches. According to choosechicago.com, some of the best beaches include North Avenue Beach, Montrose Avenue Beach, and 12th Street Beach. There are also multiple food and ice cream stands to keep you satiated throughout the day. However, if sand isn’t your thing, but you still want to get out on the water, taking a boat cruise such as the Seadog Thrill Rides or the Wendella would also be a great option.
Navy Pier also provides a fantastic view of the lake, and it is famous for its iconic Ferris wheel, The Centennial Wheel. Chicago Food and Tours says it “[features] over 50 acres of various Chicago attractions, entertainment, and events,” and is the “perfect way to spend a warm day or a hot night.” With many rides, dining, live music, and fireworks, it is no wonder why it attracts many tourists year after year.
One of the most famous events in the summer is Chicago’s iconic music festival, Lollapalooza. This year, it is taking place from August 1st through the 4th in Grant Park, and features artists such as Tyler, the Creator, Hozier, SZA, Melanie Martinez, and more. It is described as “one of the world’s premier music festivals.” However, this is not the only summer festival in Chicago. Almost as popular as Lolla, are the Windy City Smokeout, Pitchfork Music Festival, and North Coast Music Festival.
After lakefront activities and concerts, there are other Chicago activities such as shopping downtown, or attending sports events such as baseball games played by the Chicago White Sox or the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, one of the oldest and most iconic stadiums in the country.
There is no limit to the fun you can have in Chicago. Now that you have a list of ideas for things to do, hopefully you can start your summer planning!
