Girls’ Tennis Impresses Despite Shortened Season

The Girls’ Varsity Tennis Team finished off the season with a bang celebrating a second place overall win at conference. Partners Anna Dray and Maeve Paris were runners-up for the first doubles position, as were Caroline Blair and Ava Saunders at second, and Casserly Hyland and Kate Dugan at third. First singles Kate Trifilio finished third and second singles Caitlin Brady finished second.

“We truly were distanced but united,” senior captain Casserly Hyland stated following this successful weekend.

The following weekend was sectionals, and the girls did not disappoint. Two big wins were brought to the team with Dray and Paris at first doubles and Trifilio at first singles. This was the first victory for the two sophomores, Dray and Paris, but a repeat win for senior Dray.

The Girls JV team also pulled through with a successful season despite losing their match against Loyola. The team did not let anxieties about COVID-19 bring them down, and morale stayed at an all-time high throughout the season.

“It was a lot of fun” reflected senior Sophie Saunders upon her final season as a Friar. All the girls are grateful that in the midst of a chaotic school year, they were granted an unforgettable season.
