This year Fenwick’s doors have been opened to a remarkable number of twenty new faculty members. Never before in Fenwick history has there been a greater addition of teachers and administrators. These twenty individuals come from very diverse backgrounds, each carrying their own notable experiences, several of which were shared in interviews that can be viewed on the Friar Nation and Features pages.
The need for new teachers initially arose as many faculty members did not return to their positions this year. Additionally, many teachers changed roles to accommodate different responsibilities and schedules. Fresh, flexible teachers were necessary to fill the vacancies that were created by several new classes and electives. Also, due to the large freshman class this year, instructors were needed to cover more sections.
The process of hiring twenty new teachers was actually much more simple than it sounds. After applying for a job through the Fenwick website or the Archdiocese, teachers went through a series of interviews- first with assistant principals and department chairs, and later with Mr. Groom and Fr. Peddicord.
While the hiring process was fairly easy, with so many new faculty members, some confusion is bound to arise. Luckily, issues are handled with the poise and professionalism that Fenwick is known for. Assistant Principal, Ms. Comiskey, notes that the main priority in regards to the new teachers is “making sure everyone is familiar with the school and its procedures.”
Teachers must become familiar with Schoology, dress code and behavior policies, as well as other countless hurdles every single Fenwick attendee learns to leap over. One thing is certain: the addition of twenty faculty members is sure to benefit the school as a whole.
