This Fall’s Guide to Binge-Watching

Did you just finish your third round of watching The Office again? Do you want to start a new show, but don’t know where to start? Well, here is what’s new to Netflix this fall:

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before came out in August and details the embarrassing but cute love story of Lara Jean Covey, played by Lana Condor, and Peter Kavinsky, played by Noah Centineo. The film adaptation of the novel, written by Jenny Han, is being praised for having an Asian American lead, which is helping the fight to diversify Hollywood. The hour and a half film feels like minutes because it is so easy to invest yourself in.

Everyone’s favorite 80’s teen movie, The Breakfast Club, just arrived September 1st, and if you haven’t seen it, you now have no excuse not to watch this classic film. Starring Molly Ringwald, this film lacks no aspects of a movie from 1985. The film depicts five high school students in Saturday detention for one reason or another, and despite their differences, they stand up to the bully, played by Paul Gleason, as Richard Vernon- the teacher.

Noah Centineo stars in Sierra Burgess is a Loser this fall, along with Barb from Stranger Things, Shannon Purser. Although this movie has faced criticism for its message on catfishing, it is still a heartfelt movie that tackles problems like body image and issues at home. The film was shot in a way that makes it feel nostalgic to watch and reminiscent of the 80’s, which is a popular trend in the 2010’s. Since his appearance in The Fosters, another Netflix show, and the aforementioned To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Noah Centineo has gained a huge following. That following has put him and his movies on a pedestal which could have contributed to the backlash that Sierra Burgess is a Loser felt after its release. Despite this, it is still a worthwhile movie to watch.

New seasons of binge worthy shows have just arrived to Netflix. The Good Place and American Vandal have added a second season and The Walking Dead has added its 8th season. The question of a 9th season is still up in the air. Although many of our favorite shows and movies have been added to the seemingly endless library, Netflix is also deciding to remove many favorites including but not limited to Life is Beautiful, 13 Going on to 30, Hotel for Dogs, and Moonrise Kingdom. It is unclear why Netflix is deciding to remove these classic movies, but they are leaving for good this fall– so watch them while you still can.

With the constant additions and removals from Netflix’s library, it may seem hard to keep up with; however, it also means that there are always new shows and movies to watch and procrastinate with. Or you can just rewatch The Office for the fourth time.
